Memorial Day Service - Rome NY

Memorial Day is a purposeful day that honors our fallen heroes that served our country. The motivation behind the holiday is to help reconnect our community to the losses suffered by families that sent men and women off to war. Over the past 3 years, I had the privilege of attending Rome NY's Memorial Day Service at Veteran's Park.  Rome's event adheres to the spirit of Memorial Day as a day of remembrance. They have a traditional service at 10:00am and it is  recommended to arrive early. If you bring children, remind them this is quiet service and to respect what Memorial Day means to our community. It is a great opportunity for our community to remember the spirit of the holiday.

Dawn Marie's Treasures - Rome NY

My boys and I spotted such a great gift shop in Rome NY as we looked for a Mother's Day gift this weekend. The shop, Dawn Marie's Treasures is located on Black River Blvd inside the shopping plaza that is next to the Post Office.

The shop has a unique combination of antiques, unique gift ideas and a thrift store atmosphere.  The owners are extremely friendly. They welcomed us and helped make gift suggestions. They are such a great couple and have a wonderful sense of humor. They helped my children pick out a great gift for their mom and gift wrapped the present as a courtesy. Such great service!

The store has a great Men's Tie selection. Something that is not easy to find in Rome. There are many items for the home. Accent decorations abound in the store. They also have collectables, vintage record albums,
jewelry and toys for kids and adults to browse. They also have a clothing section in the back of the store.

This is the owner's second store. They have one in Clinton that was damaged by a broken water pipe. This kind of unexpected trauma is a huge issue for small business owners. They asked me to pass along that their store in Clinton should be reopening in June. Let's get the word out and let everyone know what a great specialty shop we have for all to enjoy.
